Frequently Asked Questions
What sample format does the Octatrack MKII need?
The Octatrack MKII plays 16 or 24-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo WAV files. Other sample rates and formats aren't supported. Files at 48 kHz or 96 kHz must be converted before transfer. SampleStack's Octatrack profile handles this automatically.
How are samples organized on the Octatrack?
Samples live on a CompactFlash card (FAT32, up to 64 GB) inside Sets. Each Set has an AUDIO folder for the sample pool plus project folders. Subfolders within AUDIO are browsable on the device. Samples in the AUDIO pool are shared across every project within a Set.
What's the difference between Flex and Static machines?
Flex machines load samples into RAM (80 MB per project, 128 slots) for full real-time manipulation, including time-stretch, pitch, and slicing. Static machines stream directly off the CF card (128 slots), useful for longer files where RAM would be a constraint. Most performances use a mix.
Can the Octatrack still get firmware updates?
Yes. Elektron continues to release firmware updates for the Octatrack MKII. Check Elektron's site for the current version and release notes.
Why does my Octatrack say 'wrong format'?
Almost always a sample rate mismatch (file is 48 kHz instead of 44.1) or a bit depth issue (32-bit float isn't supported, so convert to 16 or 24-bit first). SampleStack flags both before export and converts in one click.
