Preparing samples for the Digitakt

The original Digitakt is mono, and it works like its successor: no card slot, everything over USB through the Elektron Transfer app, onto a 1 GB +Drive. Samples are 16-bit, 48 kHz, and each project loads what it uses into 64 MB of RAM.

The small +Drive rewards a tidy, pre-converted library rather than dumping everything and sorting later. SampleStack converts to 16-bit 48 kHz mono and organizes folders before transfer, so the +Drive holds a set you can actually navigate on the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sample format does the original Digitakt use?

16-bit, 48 kHz mono. Sample tracks on the original Digitakt are mono, so stereo files are summed. SampleStack validates samples against this and converts anything that doesn't match before you transfer it.

How long can a sample be on the Digitakt?

The 33-second figure in the manual is the on-device sampling limit. Samples you transfer can be longer: they're limited by the project's 64 MB of sample RAM, which is shared by every sample in the project. That works out to roughly 11 minutes of 16-bit, 48 kHz mono audio.

What's the difference between the Digitakt and Digitakt II?

The Digitakt II has 16 stereo-capable audio tracks, far more sample memory and storage, and more playback machines. The original has 8 mono sample tracks, 64 MB of sample RAM per project and a 1 GB +Drive. SampleStack has a separate collection type for each, because their sample requirements differ.
