Serum 2

SampleStack supported

Xfer Records

Xfer's hybrid synth, whose Multisample Oscillator imports SFZ with key ranges and velocity layers.

Serum 2 is Xfer Records' hybrid synthesizer. Alongside its wavetable engine, it adds a Multisample Oscillator that imports SFZ instruments, so a sampled instrument you build in SampleStack can become an oscillator inside a Serum patch, with its filters, modulation, and effects on top.

This is a Serum 2 feature. Serum 1 is wavetable-only and cannot import multisamples. Serum 2 runs on macOS and Windows as a paid plugin.

File format and compatibility

Export your instrument from SampleStack as SFZ, then load it into Serum 2's Multisample Oscillator. Xfer describe it as reading "the open standard and human-readable sfz file format," so your key ranges, velocity layers, and loop points come across, ready to be shaped by Serum's synthesis. The SFZ export page covers what carries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Serum 2 import SFZ?

Yes. Serum 2's Multisample Oscillator imports SFZ instruments, with key ranges and velocity layers. Serum 1 is wavetable-only and does not.

How do I load a SampleStack instrument into Serum 2?

Export it as SFZ from SampleStack, then import the .sfz into Serum 2's Multisample Oscillator. Keep the referenced WAV files alongside the .sfz file.

Can I use Serum's synthesis on a sampled instrument?

Yes. Once your SFZ is loaded as a Multisample Oscillator, Serum 2's filters, envelopes, LFOs, and effects apply to it like any other oscillator.
