Preparing samples for the SP-404MKII

The Roland SP-404 MKII samples at 48 kHz, 16-bit, and keeps all working data in 16 GB of internal memory; the SD card is only a doorway for import and export. You place audio in an IMPORT folder on a FAT32 card (32 GB or smaller, formatted on the unit) and then import to pads from the menu.

It takes 16, 24, or 32-bit WAV at 44.1, 48, or 96 kHz, but not 32-bit float, and 48 kHz 16-bit is the safe target. Exports come back as proprietary .SMP files. SampleStack converts a library to a format the SP-404 MKII imports cleanly and fills the IMPORT folder so pad banks load without conversion on the box.
